The inspiration for my final collection began with my fascination for the smaller and often over looked details in the world around us. The book ‘Patternity – A New Way of Seeing’ by Anna Murray & Grace Winteringham expresses the importance of pattern within our lives, becoming more aware of our surroundings and finding magnificence in the mundane. It is a perfect example of how we should begin to look closer at the details that surround us. There is an array of life, patterns and textures beyond the edge of sight – virtually invisible to the naked eye. Only when we look at these structures and forms closer under a microscope, do we realise how even more fascinating life really is – providing endless inspiring material to work from.

My final womenswear fabric collection, designed for Spring/Summer 2019, focuses around the theme of cellular nature, looking at microscopic structures and forms. By looking at these cells and organic structures underneath a microscope, I explored this theme in a more abstract approach – focusing on shape, line and colour.

Dechreuodd yr ysbrydoliaeth ar gyfer fy nghasgliad olaf am fod y manylion llai sy’n aml yn cael eu hanwybyddu yn y byd o’n cwmpas wedi fy swyno. Mae’r llyfr ‘Patternity – A New Way of Seeing’ gan Anna Murray a Grace Winteringham yn mynegi mor bwysig yw patrwm yn ein bywydau, dod yn fwy ymwybodol o’n hamgylchoedd a chanfod bod y cyffredin yn gallu bod yn odidog. Mae’n enghraifft berffaith o’r ffordd y dylem ddechrau edrych ar y manylion sydd o’n cwmpas. Mae casgliad o fywyd, patrymau a gweadedd sydd y tu hwnt i derfynau’n golwg – sydd bron â bod yn anweladwy i’r llygad noeth. Ond pan edrychwn ar y strwythurau a’r ffurfiau hyn yn agosach o dan y microsgop y byddwn yn sylweddoli bod bywyd hyd yn oed yn fwy cyfareddol – gan roi deunydd ysbrydoledig di-ben-draw yn ddeunydd i’w weithio.

Mae fy nghasgliad olaf o ffabrigau dillad menywod, a ddyluniwyd ar gyfer Gwanwyn/Haf 2019, yn canolbwyntio ar thema natur gellog, gan edrych ar ffurfiau a strwythurau microsgopig. Drwy edrych ar y celloedd hyn ac ar strwythurau organig o dan ficrosgop, fe wnes i archwilio’r thema hon mewn ffordd fwy haniaethol gan ganolbwyntio ar siâp, llinell a lliw.
