BSc (Hons) Product Design

Over my time studying product design I have truly discovered my enjoyment for not only the process but the outcome, I really take pride in bringing something from a thumbnail sketch to a functional product that could change lives such as my BSc project to design a portable, affordable air purifier. Whether this be a mass manufactured product, a service or a one-off design for a person or group of people with very specific needs like my major project, where I designed a specialist cleaning tool for wheelchair users. That said, as designers I think we truly need to think about the effect on the world we have, therefore designing sustainable products but also only designing products that there truly is a need for.

Dros fy amser yn astudio dylunio cynnyrch rwyf wir wedi darganfod fy mwynhad nid yn unig am y broses ond y canlyniad, rwyf wir yn ymfalchïo mewn dod â rhywbeth o fraslun bawd i gynnyrch swyddogaethol a allai newid bywydau fel fy mhrosiect BSc i ddylunio purwr aer, cludadwy, fforddiadwy. Boed hwn yn gynnyrch wedi’i weithgynhyrchu ar raddfa fawr, yn wasanaeth neu’n ddyluniad unwaith ac am byth ar gyfer person neu grŵp o bobl ag anghenion penodol iawn fel fy mhrosiect mawr, lle dyluniais offeryn glanhau arbenigol ar gyfer defnyddwyr cadeiriau olwyn. Wedi dweud hynny, fel dylunwyr rwy’n credu bod gwir angen i ni feddwl am yr effaith ar y byd sydd gennym, felly dylunio cynhyrchion cynaliadwy ond hefyd dim ond dylunio cynhyrchion y mae gwir angen amdanynt.

This is an image showing off the design of my affordable, portable air purifier that I designed as part of my BSc Tech Report project. It uses, LiPo batteries, fans and filters like HEPA and activated carbon filters to clean the air!

Exploded views like this are critical to showing off how a product works by allowing people to see all of the interior components and how they sit within a product. As you can see this shows off everything from the filters to the electronics required for it to function.

For my 5 week project I designed a conceptual drone designed to use UVC to disinfect hand rails and bannisters autonomously, reducing waste and time taken to clean a space.

My major project was to design a product to improve the life of people with a spinal injury, my design is a specialist tool designed to clean both the tyres and hand rims of wheelchairs while remaining affordable and portable.
