BA (Hons) Animation

My animation has brought together elements of live-action and 2D animation. The story uses the method of an advertisement to portray the story. The advert itself is presented by a fox and has an additional character which works as a sort of antagonist ; the hen. It works as a way for other foxes to gather information on farms like which places have the best eggs and what security is like. It was inspired by a bit within an anime that has a premise of a show for bounty hunters called The Big Shot (Cowboy Bebop).

My film has a heavy influence of editing which takes inspiration from over the top Asain television. I was able to use techniques such as animated text and greenscreen work. I was able to create this piece by also using techniques like lip synching and overlaying to blend the two worlds together. My character’s body during the studio sessions is live action whilst the head is animated and pieced together with tracking.

The background art design I chose was inspired by children’s television like Blue’s Clues and The Regular Show, as I wanted to create something that wouldn’t be too distracting from the live-action. I also wanted to create it around an autumnal feel to the farmland as previous animations don’t explore that season. The character design for my fox was inspired by Fantastic Mr Fox and ZooTopia who are characters who display more human mannerisms as well the way their clothes were thought out.

Mae fy ngwaith animeiddio wedi dod ag elfennau o ffilmio byw ac animeiddio 2D at ei gilydd. Mae’r stori’n defnyddio dull hysbyseb i gyfleu’r stori. Caiff yr hysbyseb ei hun ei gyflwyno gan lwynog a cheir cymeriad ychwanegol sy’n gweithredu fel rhyw fath o wrthwynebydd; yr iâr. Gweithia fel modd i lwynogod eraill gasglu gwybodaeth ar ffermydd megis ble mae’r wyau gorau a beth yw’r mesurau diogelwch. Cafodd ei ysbrydoli gan ddarn o fewn ‘anime’ sy’n gynsail i sioe ar gyfer helwyr trysor o’r enw The Big Shot (Cowboy Bebop).

Mae dylanwad golygu cryf ar fy ffilm sy’n cael ei hysbrydoli gan deledu Asiaidd dros ben llestri. Roedd modd i mi ddefnyddio technegau megis testun animeiddiedig a gwaith sgrin werdd. Roedd modd i mi greu’r darn hwn drwy ddefnyddio technegau fel cydamseriad gwefusau a thrososod i gyfuno’r ddau fyd. Mae corff fy nghymeriad yn ystod y sesiynau stiwdio’n gweithredu’n fyw ac mae’r pen wedi’i animeiddio ac wedi’i roi at ei gilydd drwy dracio.

Ysbrydolwyd cynllun y gwaith celf a ddewisais ar gyfer y cefndir gan deledu plant megis Blue’s Clues a The Regular Show, am fy mod i eisiau creu rhywbeth na fyddai’n denu gormod o sylw oddi wrth y symudiadau byw. Roeddwn i hefyd eisiau cyflwyno naws hydrefol i’r fferm am nad yw’r tymor hwnnw’n cael ei drin mewn animeiddiadau blaenorol. Ysbrydolwyd cynllun cymeriad y llwynog gan Fantastic Mr Fox a ZooTopia sy’n gymeriadau sy’n dangos nodweddion dynol yn ogystal â’r modd y cynlluniwyd eu dillad.
