Gayle James

BA (Hons) Ceramics

Vessels are necessities and always have been. To provide to such basic human needs is a hugely motivating and an exciting prospect for Gayle.

To express this she tries to make vessels that feel honest, simple and understated. In terms of how to address the legacy and history of the vessel in human civilization, she hopes to make pieces that emphasize the sharing of food to allow for that kind of open community. The link between the origins of civilization and origins of ceramics is quite strong, it reveals the values that we find in a settled community and ceramic vessels are quite close. It is this link between relationship and the vessel that drives and inspires her to create.
